Newport Music Festival to host live concerts

Nearly six months after canceling its summer festival for the first time in its 52-year history, the Newport Music Festival will present live concerts again Oct. 12-14 at The Chanler at Cliff Walk.

The concerts, featuring Charlie Albright on Oct. 12, Neave Trio on Oct. 13, and Boyd Meets Girl on Oct. 14, will take place in a heated tent on the lawn of the Chanler. All concerts will begin promptly at 7 p.m.

The concerts will feature contactless entry; symptom screening of all attendees, staff and volunteers; and hand sanitizer stations. It will be required that all staff and attendees wear masks coverings that cover the nose and mouth. Physical distancing of at least 6 feet between reserved parties will be required, and the spacing will be managed by Newport Music Festival staff and volunteers who have been trained and certified in COVID-19 safety protocols.

Businesses sought for Halloween event

The Newport Recreation Departmetn is seeking area businesses and organizations interested in being a part of a special drive-through Halloween event.

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 31st at Easton’s Beach. Families will have the opportunity to drive through the parking lot and trick or treat with the various vendors onsite.

Portsmouth agency to host flu shot clinics

The Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice will hold multiple public flu shot clinics at its headquarters at 1184 East Main Road in Portsmouth.

Because of COVID-19, the clinics are by appointment only. The agency asks patients to refrain from dropping in. The clinics are held from Sept. 30 through Nov. 19 on the following days and times: Mondays from noon to 3 p.m.; Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m.

All appointments should be made at visitingnursehh.org. Those without computer access should call the VNH&H Flu Hotline at 401 682-2100, Ext. 1705. Patients are asked to leave a message and a staff member will call back to schedule an appointment.

Jim Kweskin to be featured in virtual concert

Common Fence Music will present the legendary Jim Kweskin in a livestream concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18. The event is free, and all tips go to the artist. A link to the online concert will be provided at commonfencemusic.org prior to show time.
