Hip Hop Awards ‘20: 5 Things To Know About Mulatto  BET

For those who are in the know, Mulatto has been on the come-up for some time now. After winning the first season of The Rap Game, the then-16-year-old took the reins of her career. On her independent grind, ‘Latto released a handful of mixtapes while amassing millions of followers.

After years of putting in the work, the Atlanta rapper’s breakthrough moment came in 2019 with the release of boldly-titled single, “Bitch from da Souf.” The record was an immediate success and quickly racked up views and streams. It propelled her star to new heights and led to a deal with RCA Records for the 21-year-old in March of this year. In August, ‘Latto released her debut album, Queen of Da Souf, a bold declaration of the impact she wants to leave on the music industry.

That same month she was a part of a culturally-defining moment when Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion released “WAP.” ‘Latto was chosen to appear in the accompanying music video alongside Rubi Rose, Sukihana, as well as singers Normani and Rosalía, and Kylie Jenner.

With a few standout tracks under her belt, a cameo in one of the biggest music videos of the year, and co-signs from rap heavyweights, ‘Latto’s star has only continued to rise. The 21-year-old is nominated for Best New Hip Hop Artist at the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards alongside fellow newcomers Flo Milli, Jack Harlow, NLE Choppa, Rod Wave and the late Pop Smoke. Here are a few things you need to know about the self-proclaimed Queen of Da Souf.
