First Ever Virtual Lincoln Park Music Festival Closes on Sunday – TAPinto.net
Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District (LPCCD) will close its first-ever digital Lincoln Park Music Festival 14.2 Edition Virtual Global Soul by partnering with the People of Color International Film Festival and its very own Lincoln Park Music Festival Lincoln Park Caribana: Sneak Preview.
On Saturday, October 24 starting at 4 p.m., the People of Color International Film Festival (POCIFF) will showcase 3.5 hours of the best international film submissions representing India, Turkey, Iran, Australia, the United Kingdom, Mexico, USA. People of Color International’s aim is to promote films worldwide about people who represent the terms “Black”, “Brown”, “Tan”, “Yellow” as well as marginalized people who may identify as a Person of Color.
The curated films have a progressive perspective on cultures that are often stereotyped or overlooked in mainstream media. POCIFF is curated by Harlemwood Entertainment Founder Frank Hooker Jr., a graduate of St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, N.J., now residing in Harlem, N.Y.
At 8 p.m., Lincoln Park Music Festival 14.2 Edition Virtual Global Soul and POCIFF present an exclusive, very limited screening of Mr. SOUL!, an award-winning film by Melissa Haizlip. Before Oprah – before Arsenio – there was Mr. SOUL! Ellis Haizlip ensured the Revolution would be televised with SOUL!, America’s first “Black Tonight Show.”
From 1968 to 1973, the public-television variety show SOUL!, guided by the enigmatic producer and host Ellis Haizlip, offered an unfiltered, uncompromising celebration of black literature, poetry, music, and politics—voices that had few other options for national exposure, and, as a result, found the program an improbable place to call home.
With participants’ recollections and a bevy of great archival clips, Mr. SOUL! captures a critical moment in culture whose impact continues to resonate. LPMF’s Saturday line up will ONLY be available to watch on https://www.lincolnparkmusicfestival.com/
LPCCD will close out Lincoln Park Music Festival 14.2 Edition Virtual Global Soul on Sunday, October 25th from 6 PM-8 PM with Lincoln Park Caribana: Sneak Preview – the new festival experience dedicated to the celebration of the music, food, and culture of the Caribbean diaspora in the Greater Newark area and around the world.
“The plan to extend our popular free outdoor Lincoln Park Music Festival to include the music of the Caribbean has been gestating for the past three years,” said Anthony Smith, executive director of Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District.
“Lincoln Park Music Festival is ‘the people’s festival’ and, to be of and for the people, that means inclusivity. To that end, we knew we had to create a strategic alliance with Caribbean music and marketing experts Dave Rodney and Anthony H. Turner of Images LLC,” Smith said.
“With COVID-19 impacting the arts community’s ability to gather in physical spaces to showcase their art form, we knew it was imperative to actualize the digital platform – the Lincoln Park Music Festival Virtual Global Soul,” said Senior Producer and Festival Director Kim J. Ford of BRND Marketing Group LLC.
“The upside was that we could showcase talent from around the world virtually and create a cultural exchange. We created an alliance with London, UK based AAA Seminars founded by entertainment industry veteran Hakeem Stevens (formerly Warner Music Group London UK and VP Records London UK),” Ford said. “Together with Images LLC, our partners are steeped in experience in music and Caribbean culture.”
Lincoln Park Caribana will be a signature event of the 15th Anniversary of the Lincoln Park Music Festival in 2021.
Lincoln Park Music Festival 14.2 Edition Virtual Global Soul is sponsored by a grant from the City of Newark’s pandemic relief Creative Catalyst Fund, Verizon, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, PSEG, United Airlines, Provident Bank, and Valley National Bank. Partners include Visit Jamaica, Visit Antigua, and Barbuda, Sosobone.com, Images LLC, and AAA Seminars.
The festival was produced by BRND Marketing Group LLC in conjunction with Red Summer TV.

Nadine Sutherland (Jamaica)
Nadine Sutherland is one who is spanning the generations. Nurtured by international Reggae superstar Bob Marley signed her to his Tuff Gong label while she was a pre-adolescent, Nadine went from being known as Reggae’s “Teen Queen”, with hits including “Starvation” and “Until”; to garnering international acclaim as the co-lead on dancehall anthems “Action” and “Anything For You”. She was handpicked by Reggae icon Peter Tosh, to provide background vocal on his Grammy award album ‘No Nuclear War’. This led her to be one of the top requested studio background vocalists in the late eighties and the early nineties. Providing support vocals for Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Buju Banton and the soundtrack of Disney’s Sebastian the Crab. Throughout the 90’s, Nadine remained centre-stage in the dancehall with solo hits including “Rainbow/ I’m in Love”, “Babyface” and “Wicked & Wild”, as well as collaborations with top deejays including Buju Banton, Mad Cobra, Spragga Benz, Terror Fabulous and Canadian singjay Snow.
Richie Stephens (Jamaica)
Born in Westmoreland, Jamaica, Stephens worked in the early 1990s as part of the twice Grammy-nominated act Soul II Soul. He recorded at Motown, VP Records, and then his own label Pot of Gold Records. He released dancehall singles such as “Winner”, “Bus the Place” and “Slop Dem”. His tracks “Legacy” (Mad Cobra) featuring Richie Stevens, 1993) and “Come Give Me Your Love” “Come Give Me Your Love” (Richie Stephens featuring General Degree, 1997) peaked at numbers 64 and 61 respectively in the UK Singles Chart. In 1998, Stephens’ album Winner was released by Greensleeves, produced by himself, Frenchie, Danny Brownie, and Donovan Germain. Since then, Stephens has focused his music on Christian related themes. In 2006 Stephens received the Jamaican Governor-General’s Achievement Award for contributing to civic, social, and recreational projects in and around the parish of Westmoreland.
