Hip-Hop gets a Bad Rap

Jus J (06/16/11 03:50:02)   Tag: default

Earlier today I read an article from the N.W.I. times. Now I must say first that this is strictly opinion, not to the owners of Bottom's Up or a knock on N.W.I. Times of Lake County. In this article the owner speaks about bringing in a "new crowd."

Here is a portion of what was printed.

As her customer base changed from refined to rowdy, Diane Glowacki decided it was time to change Bottom's Up.

"I wanted to get rid of the late night riff–raff," Glowacki said. "With the neighborhood changing, we got gangs in and all ethnicities and they didn't get along so there were problems."

After closing for nine months, the sports bar and grill reopened last July as The New Bottoms Up with a new septic field, a remodeled interior, more specialty menu items such as seafood and pastas, an enlarged the beer garden and a completely new wait staff.

It also replaced the DJ and pool tables with more TVs –– 25 in all -- and focuses on live local entertainment.

"It's classic rock and jazz as opposed to the hip–hop we used to have," Glowacki said. "It brings in a very nice crowd from 21 to 70."

Now, hold on a second "opposed to Hip-Hop" is this what the music genre stands for. Yes it came from urban culture, but like any music genre it has and will continue to evolve. I do not care what color or nationality you are, or your age. Hip-Hop should not be stereo-typed as "bad news" for "up-scale" establishments. What about all the rock that talks about drugs, sex and violence. The outlook and perspective of Hip-Hop has to change. And as Hip-Hop artists we should want to make the whole world move to our music not just a chosen few. Hip-Hop gets a Bad Rap, but let's change the tune.

I completly agree with you, I bet it had more to do with the managment of the venu and not the type of music
