Carlos Wiltshire, alias Carlos de Nicaragua, was born in Bluefields, on the nicaraguayan atlantic coast. His name is not only in reference to his country of birth but mostly in reference to the legendary indian chief Nicaraocai, philosopher, ferocious warrior and fighter. Carlos de Nicaragua was one of the precursors of the sound system concept in Paris, with his own Kupia Kumi Sound System. Another sound system, called Jah Wisdom, produced Carlos' single "Mayombe", also included in the "Jah Wisdom-Vocals & Dub" compilation. Back in these times, Carlos produced himself with Tonton David y Pablo Master. In 94, he joined the Mano Negra in a spanish tour and released "El Alakran" for the album "Casa Babylon". conquering with his shout "Escuche Familia!" that crowned his irruptions on stage, fans from all around France and Spain. The Salsa Reggae Original Style was born to conquer a public eager of hot cadences and positive vibrations. In Paris, latinos, french and africans dance during the concerts under the blazing fire of a nicaraguayan named Carlos and his band "Familia", pioneers of the salsa reggae style. His admiration for the reggae prophets Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear [...] pushed him to dedicate himself to this music, reinventing it and mixing it with the tumbao of dancing rhythms from the Bronx and other great salsa capitals. Carlos explains he left his revolutionnary experience overthere, on the other side of the ocean, to explore his own path that he discovered through cinema, anthropology, in a permanent rebellion, and, among all, in music. Among his favorite poets are Ruben Dario and Nicolas Guillén, author of "Songoro Cosongo". One of his musical influence is Santana, to whom he constantly pays tribute. A few years ago, Carlos de Nicaragua collaborated with Mano Negra, the marginal band that would later become famous, lead by Manu Chao, whose last album was the most successful : "Casa Babylon". It is known that for the rastas, Babylon is the symbol of the occidental society, decadant and without soul, where instead of the sun rises the dollar. Carlos, con su banda "Carlos de Nicaragua y Familia" travelled around all Europe participating in big festivals like Franco Folies, Festival de Trutnovs Trenchtin, Village Rasta, Mundo Latino, Uzona Reggae...Today, Carlos is finishing his album MILITANTE.
