Migos Ties Destiny’s Child & Dru Hill’s Group Record on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart – Billboard
As Migos returns to the top 10 on Billboard‘s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart with “Need It,” featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again, the rap trio ties for the most top 10s by any group with R&B greats Destiny’s Child and Dru Hill.
“Need” lifts 15-10 on the chart dated July 18 with an 18% surge to 10.4 million in audience in the week ending July 12, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
The single gives rap trio Migos, comprised of Offset, Quavo and Takeoff, its 10th top 10 visit on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, matching Destiny Child and Dru Hill’s top 10 totals for the most among duos or groups since the chart began in 1992. Here’s an updated look at the total count for multi-member acts as Migos moves onto the podium:
10, Destiny’s Child
10, Dru Hill
10, Migos
9, Boyz II Men
9, SWV
9, TLC
9, Xscape
Of the three, Dru Hill was the first group to reach the double-digit mark. The Sisqó-led unit posted their maiden top 10 with “Tell Me,” which rose to No. 6 in 1996. It was the first of eight consecutive radio smashes to hit the top 10, including the group’s sole No. 1, “In My Bed,” a five-week leader in 1997. Dru Hill landed its final pair of top 10s on the list in a guest spot alongside Kool Moe Dee on Will Smith’s “Wild Wild West” and its own “I Should Be…” in 2003.
Destiny’s Child, meanwhile, kicked off its top 10 run with debut single “No No No,” a No. 5 hit in 1998. The group, fronted by Beyonce, then landed three top 10s from sophomore album The Writings on the Wall, including its only No. 1 in “Bills Bills Bills,” which reigned for four weeks in 1999. Two top 10s from Survivor followed in 2000-2001, while the R&B divas’ final four top 10s all came from their 2004 LP Destiny Fulfilled.
Migos, the men of the moment, earned a first top 10 with “Fight Night” in August 2014, which peaked at No. 6 the following month. Here’s a rundown of all the trio’s tracks to crack the top 10 barrier:
