JACKSON, MI — Miss country concerts? Grab your boots and your car keys for a “Tailgates & Tunes Drive-In” live country music concert in Jackson next month.

Organizers for country music festival Country Boots & Bands are planning the inaugural drive-in concert event for Saturday, Aug. 29 on the driving range at the Grande Golf Club, 1579 Floyd Ave. Concert-goers will see two country music acts perform. Gates open at 5 p.m. and performances begin at 6:30 p.m.

The concert is meant to give attendees a live show experience while maintaining social distancing — comparable to a drive-in movie — because of the possibility of transmitting the novel coronavirus in a crowd, like at a traditional concert, organizers said.

Sadie Bass and Jason Cross will open for headliner Mitchell Tenpenny. His song “Drunk Me” was released in 2018. A year later he was nominated for the Academy of Country Music Award’s “new male artist of the year.”

Tickets are on sale beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, through social media, and open to the public on Friday, July 24, according to the website. Cars with five or less seats will cost $100 and six or more seats will cost $150.

To maintain social distancing, each car will be parked 10 feet apart, organizers said. Masks will be required if an attendee needs to leave their car and bathrooms will be sanitized between use.

The concert is good for all ages, according to the website. Attendees can bring their own food but no alcohol can be brought onto the golf course. Instead, alcohol will be sold by the course.
