Port Gamble Maritime Music Festival goes online  Peninsula Daily News

PORT GAMBLE — The 15th annual Port Gamble Maritime Music Festival has added its name to the long list of events this year that are switching to an online-only production due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The music festival will be from 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturday. The maritime-themed music performances can be viewed on the Facebook event page.

“We’re unable to hold it in person for public health reasons, but we will collect performances from our musical acts, add in some footage of Port Gamble, and a few bonus features, all to make a fun online festival experience,” the event page said.

“This change is for this year only: 2020 online, but 2021 in person, right?”

The festival will highlight eight different acts, highlighting the Master of Ceremonies Dan Roberts, different maritime-themed bands and photos and video of Port Gamble, the event page said.

The event is put on by non-profit Maritime Folknet.

Schedule for the event

• 1 p.m.: Dan Roberts (Master of Ceremonies)

• 1:10 p.m.: Gilbert & McHagar

• 1:40 p.m.: Mutiny!

• 2:10 p.m.: Musical Intermission (songs set to photos and video of Port Gamble)

• 1:40 p.m.: Past winners of the Bob Kotta Songwriting Contest

• 2:10 p.m.: Tania Opland & Mike Freeman

• 3:05 p.m.: Songs from the Board of Maritime Folknet

• 3:20 p.m.: MC’s Farewell

Songwriting competition canceled

MC Roberts is a singer and songwriter with decades of experience ranging from opera to folk music and is “largely responsible” for re-establishing the Northwest Seaport Chantey Sing in Seattle back in 2000, the event page said.

The festival’s songwriting competition is canceled for this year; however, next year’s festival will have the same theme and rules, so contestants who were working on songs will not have to scrap their work, according to the festival’s website.

More information on the festival and profiles of some of the performers can be found on the Facebook event page or on the festival’s website at portgamblemaritimemusic.com.
