Shinedown Became the First Rock Band in History to Do This – RADIO.COM
Shinedown has just made Rock history with their new single, “Atlas Falls.”
The song has landed at the top spot on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs Chart and marks the band’s 16th track to go number one. With their latest chart-topping single, Shinedown now has the record for most #1’s in the history of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs Chart.
In an interview with RADIO.COM, Brent Smith took us inside the moment he learned the band had set a new record.
“My phone started going off at 10pm Saturday night with everyone from our management In De Goot Entertainment and our record label Atlantic Records letting me know we had achieved the #1,” he said.
“It means everything to us as we do not take moments like this for granted,” Smith added.
Although the song was originally written in 2013, it was first made available this past March as part of the band’s COVID-19 fundraising effort. Over $300,000 in proceeds, including a $20,000 donation from Shinedown, went to the humanitarian aid organization Direct Relief.
Smith tipped his hat to the Shinedown team and the band’s fans for their latest accomplishment and success with their fundraising efforts.
“It honestly comes down to the relationship with radio and also the fanbase. They are the ones that decide who stays and who goes,” he said.
“‘Atlas Falls’ is a very important song because of the message of optimism, hope and having courage during times of crisis. We’re grateful for the overwhelming response to this song, especially in regards to the partnership with Direct Relief and the awareness and money that has been raised to help during this global pandemic.”
Now that the band has 16 #1’s in their pocket, we asked Smith if he could remember how he celebrated his first number one.
“I was in New York City during the holidays and the week of Christmas our song ‘Save Me’ became our first #1 at Alternative radio. It was mind-blowing,” he said.
On top of the news of a new number one, Brent Smith and Zach Myers have been teasing fans about a new project coming from their duo Smith & Myers. The duo revealed several drive-in concerts in Pennsylvania, but are still teasing another announcement coming soon.
