Arts News: Bun B Performing in Tito’s “Made to Order Music Festival” – Houstonia Magazine

First there was Jack, now there’s Tito. On September 10, Tito’s Handmade Vodka is bringing the party down south for the second night of its Made to Order Music Festival, a four-part virtual series representing this country’s various musical regions.

During the event, Houston’s own rap OG Bun B and country singers Dierks Bentley and Morgan Wallen will perform songs from their own catalogs as well as covers of artists who hail from the South. According to a press release, Bun B will perform from Screwed Up Records. And since these concerts are being hosted by a distillery, each event will feature locally inspired cocktails that complement the musical acts.

This week, Theatre Under the Stars is launching a new webcast series and podcast to connect with audiences during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. A virtual version of the company’s popular Spotlight Series, the free TUTS Spotlight Webcast will stream on Facebook Live. The first episode, set for September 9, will feature conversations with the artistic directors from several Bayou City theater companies, including The Alley Theatre, Stages, and the Ensemble Theatre. Meanwhile, the monthly TUTS Spotlight Podcast, which premieres the same day, will explore the company’s vast vault of cast recordings. Fans can subscribe to the podcast on iTunes.

Later this month, The Rustic is kicking off a new lineup of socially distanced concerts called Safe Sounds Music Series, reports The Houston Chronicle. The first show, featuring Dallas alt-rockers Jackopierce, is set for the music venue/restaurant’s downtown location on September 18. All shows will adhere to The Rustic’s safety measures; guests will also be given staggered arrival times and will be seated at socially distanced tables (the show includes dinner)—there’s no standing room allowed for these intimate sets, and everyone must wear a mask.

Following the success of its Living Room Series and Live from Jones Hall performances, The Houston Symphony kicked off its 2020-2021 season last weekend with a POPS evening of Broadway favorites. The new season officially begins on September 12 with an Opening Night live-streamed performance exclusive to gala ticket holders. Live-streamed concerts continue during the weekend of September 18 with Schubert’s Octet in F Major and the weekend of September 25 with a program comprised entirely of female composers. Tickets are also available for upcoming livestream concerts on October 3, 17, 24, and 31. Plus, there’re plans to start bringing audiences back to Jones Hall, though at a much-reduced capacity.

Soon enough, Houston will have a new nickname—Drive-in City. One of the newest ones, EaDo-based Space City Shows, is Houston’s first black-owned drive-in movie theater. The venue features a 20-by-40-foot screen, food trucks, and a DJ before showtime. The pop-up theater screened its first films, which included Rush Hour 2 and The Pursuit of Happyness, last weekend, but there’s plenty more on the way.
